About Athena 00
This website is intended to provide news and information on the Sunnyvale Alliance (SASC) Athena 00 Under-9 (for Fall 2009 season) Girls Competitive Soccer Team. The Athena girls will play in the CYSA North Delgado Class 3 Division.
Typically, the team has players born between August 1st, 2000 and July 31st, 2001
Team Philosophy
- Every child should be developed to their full potential
- Winning is important and motivates everyone to do their best
- Early development is key to a players future success and can be measured independent of the main result using individual metrics like “moves” executed and team contributions like passing or finding space.
- We view U10 leagues as a nursery and opportunity for motivated kids and parents to play competitive soccer.
- The coaching is heavily subsidized at this level but the commitment from players and parents needs to be real.
- High caliber coaching is key to achieving the best outcome and whilst volunteers will be called upon to contribute and lead training sessions, the team will be directed and coached by a professionally qualified head coach.
- We want incoming recruits to aspire to becoming part of a regionally competitive team which will require a significant time and financial commitment by U12 level. We have tried to create a step-wise approach to achieve a healthy balance between financial outlay and age-appropriate coaching needs. As the kids grow and develop, the coaching fees will normalize.
